Yes, under certain conditions and according to our cancellation and deferral policy. For all the details, go to Administrative Information.

4. Where are the workshops held?

Unless otherwise specified, the workshops are held at 139 Louis Pasteur Street on the University campus or at 1 Nicholas Street just two steps from the Rideau Centre. Location and schedule are indicated on your Registration Confirmation. If you don’t know how to get to your classroom, consult the Campus Map

5. Is public transportation a good option?

Absolutely. 139 Louis Pasteur Street is less than 100 meters from the OC Transpo Transitway Campus Station. Consult the Campus Map

1 Nicholas Street is a block away from Rideau Street and from major OC Transpo and STO bus routes. The OC Transpo Transitway Rideau Centre Station is a few minutes walk from the training site. Consult the Campus Map

6. What about paid parking?

For workshops offered at 139 Louis Pasteur Street, two paid parking facilities are available:

  1. Brooks Garage, 100 Thomas More (cash, VISA or MasterCard). No in and out privileges.
  2. Mann Garage, 33 Mann (coins, VISA or MasterCard)

 7. What should I bring with me to the training workshop?

Bring writing material: a pen, a pencil, paper, a note pad...whatever you prefer! The workbook is provided.

8. Are there any breaks during the workshops?

Yes. If a workshop lasts all day (from 9:00 to 16:00), there is a 15-minute break in the morning and in the afternoon. There is also a one-hour lunch break at noon. In the case of a half-day workshop (from 8:30 to 12:30), there is one 15 minute break.

9. Are refreshments served?

Coffee, juices, yogurts, croissants, muffins and assorted pastries are offered free of charge. Think green! Reduce the amount of garbage by bringing your own coffee/tea cup. If it’s impossible for you to do so, disposable cups will be available.

10. Should I bring a lunch?

Yes, if you wish. A refrigerator is at your disposal in rooms 273 and 284. You can eat your lunch in the classroom or, if the weather permits, by the Rideau Canal! You can also choose to eat in one of the many restaurants on or around the campus. A list of restaurants is posted in the classrooms.

11. Are there any pre-requisites to qualify for your workshops?

For some writing skills workshops it is recommended that participants have adequate linguistic skills. If need be, we highly recommend that you take our short, on-line test to find out which workshop best suits your needs. If you have questions or if you would like more information, contact us: 613-562-5802 or sfp-pts@uottawa.ca.

12. Do workshop participants have homework to do?

Some instructors hand out exercises to be completed during class time or at home, but only for the purpose of facilitating the assimilation of new skills. These exercises, like the training itself, are not graded.

13. Will I receive a certification of attendance at the end of a training workshop?

You will be given a Certificate of Participation from the University of Ottawa attesting to the number of hours of training received.

14. What are your business hours?

Regular hours are 8:45 to 17:00 Monday to Friday, from September to May. Summer hours (June, July August) are 8:45 to 16:00.

15. Can your training programs be offered EXCLUSIVELY to a group of employees?

Of course! Our training programs listed on our Web site and in our brochure are available as described or can be modified to meet your organization’s unique requirements. If you have a specific type of training in mind that does not appear on our Web site or in our brochure, we can work with you to set it up. Our customized workshops are available in a range of formats including half-day, full-day or multi-day sessions.

16. When is in-house training a desirable option?

  • When your training needs allow you to regroup six employees or more and when one of our program meets your objectives
  • When you want to have a training program customized to the specific needs of your employees and have hands-on exercises based on real situations drawn from their own work
  • When you want the training to be offered in your own facilities or in any other location of your choice

To discuss your training requirements and how we can help you achieve your objectives, contact one of our training advisers: 613-562-5802 or sfp-pts@uottawa.ca
